The America - Bosnia Foundation takes pleasure in announcing the opening of the exhibition of young contemporary artists here in New York City. The opening and reception will take place at the White Box on June 1st, 2006, from 6 p.m to 8 p.m. The majority of the artists presenting their works are from Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This exhibition brings together the work of artists from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United States of America, in order to explore the borders of knowledge and language, different artistic concepts and ideas, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of both societies.
Enormous competition, extreme commercialism, expensive costs of living and production, and the unreal feeling of sudden success are just a few symptoms of the contemporary artist's life. Relativism and extreme post-modernism are slowly pushing their own way.
"Permanent presence" is one of the phrases that one could use to describe the current streams in contemporary art, where the absence of theory and confusion are reality. Sometimes, the lack of information brings more good to the artists than too much information would. However, having too many choices is often better than having no choice... In any case, this is a rare opportunity to display such different but similar artists' visions, and understand their views.
For us this is just the first show of this kind, and we are looking forward to many more to come, presenting American and Bosnian artists both in the U.S. and in BiH.
