On September 21, 2002, together with the Bosnian pianist Sasha Toperich, American artists Kathleen Cuvelier (soprano) and Efren Puig (tenor) performed a concert in commemoration of the tragedy of September 11, 2001.
The concert was held at the Federal Army Hall in Sarajevo and was organized jointly by the Ministry of Education of Sarajevo Canton and the Embassy of the United States of America. Opening remarks were delivered by Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina H.E.Beriz Belkic and the Ambassador of the United States of America in Bosnia and Herzegovina H.E. Clifford G. Bond.
Proceeds from the concert went to the Sarajevo Art Agency Fund, which provides scholarships for young artists and students of music in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In her TV interview in Sarajevo for the Federal TV News, Kathleen Cuvelier stated: "Now I can understand better what the citizens of Sarajevo went through for such a long period of time during the siege of Sarajevo, after experiencing the tragedy of September 11th in New York."
After the concert, Kathleen Cuvelier and Efren Puig invited the prominent Bosnian soprano Amila Baksic to perform in New York next year.
